Today I am posting one of the first kitchens we've ever done. Not only did we do the cabinets in the whole house we also did all the trim work and interior doors. It was a huge job and in the process of getting to know the homeowners we found out that she was our soon to be son-in-law's aunt! Eleven years later we are lucky to call them friends and return customers. She is a very talented interior decorator/designer as you can see from the design of all the cabinetry.

Everything in the following pictures is custom made. By custom I mean that Randy ran all the trim through his William & Hussey trim machine. The cabinets and doors were all made at our shop, nothing was outsourced (bought from a different manufacturer). Randy built all the interior doors and jambs in our shop. I worked directly with the homeowner to get the color of her stain exactly right. I mentioned in an earlier post about a wonderful lady who does all my stain matching and she did a perfect match with this job. I would seriously be lost without her! If anyone is ever in need of stain matching for a project just email me and I will be more than happy to give you her name. That also goes for anyone looking for an interior decorator. Well today I am posting some random family pictures. One of my hubby Randy and our 4 beautiful daughters and some other ones of baseball games, sorry but that's our main entertainment during the summer. We really love to go and watch the son-in-laws play tournaments on the weekends. We also went to a carnival with the grandkids. It sure brings back memories watching our daughters taking the little ones on the rides. It sure doesn't seem like that long ago when Randy and I were taking our kids to this same carnival! Wow how time flies!

I'm posting another maple kitchen today. It has a little darker stain than the last one and it also has a built in kitchen table area. Randy built everything, table and benches. This kitchen is full overlay doors & drawer fronts. This means you see very little of the face frame on the cabinet. If you look closely all you see is all doors and drawer fronts. Another different type of look and very pretty! We also did a couple of vanities for them. One of them has a pull out step for their young children to be able to reach the sink. The home owner said she liked this step almost as much as the whole kitchen! I have to add that at the time we did the work for them they had 4 young daughters so they are a very busy family!

This was another family that was a joy to do work for! The kitchens I have posted so far are for people who live in the same area and are friends of each other. That is how we get the majority of our jobs, word of mouth. Someone is happy with our work and they tell their friends and family. Seems like that is one way that we luck out to get some really great people to work for. Another huge thank you to another wonderful family!

This past weekend we went up north to Lac du Flambeau to watch our youngest daughters 2 little boys while she and her husband attended a wedding. Our daughter was a bridesmaid so she was very busy all weekend. The resort was just beautiful and it was only a 15 minute drive to Minocqua, which Randy and I love to go to. There is a bar on one corner that has just fantastic sandwiches and we can't forget the candy store where we always stop for fudge! It was a very nice weekend, our daughter was a beautiful bridesmaid and the kids were very easy to take care of.

Then we had more ball games, this time our oldest grandaughter who is 7 and her sister who is 5. It was the 5 year olds first time and it was hilarious! She hit the ball off the tee and runs to the coach to give him the bat and then continue on to first base! And the 7 year old was having a blast making runs and getting more comfortable with the game. And after the games we of course had to go out to our shop and ride the 4-wheeler around just for something else to do! So here are a few pictures of our past weekend and week.

Quarter Sawn Oak Cabinets

Today I am posting pictures of a kitchen made with Quarter Sawn Oak. It is Mission Style with flat panel doors and drawer fronts. The doors and drawer fronts are inlaid, set inside the face frames of the cabinets instead of laying on top of the face frame. The stain color is a custom mix. We took a piece of trim from the house and had it mixed by a very talented lady in a town close to us. She does an awesome job of matching any and every color that we have ever had to have matched. We always have it okayed by the home owner before we do any of the staining. This kitchen also has a pull out pantry which you can see in one of the pictures. It is to the left of the refrigerator. We work with the home owner to get every detail they want into the kitchen.

Once again we had an amazing family to work with on this kitchen job. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to keep going about your everyday life while people are in the middle of your home making a huge mess and running noisy tools! This family has 4 beautiful little girls and it was a treat to do this kitchen for them! We were lucky enough to get a call back and do some more work for them which I will post later on. Huge thanks once again to this wonderful family!

1st Ball Game of the Summer

I warned everyone I would be mixing in some family with our business cause that's just the way we operate. Work out at the shop for a few hours and rush in to catch either one of the son-in-laws ball games or our grandkids. Today was P's first game for the summer. He is 10 and is following very closely in his fathers footsteps. He is a very good baseball player. Two of our granddaughters are playing t-ball this year also. L played for the first time last year and is really enjoying it and A is playing t-ball for the fisrt time this year. Unfortunately her game got rained out so we'll have to get pictures next week. So here are a few pictures of P and his dad who is coach this year so he's in one of the photos too.

Craft Show

We haven't done a craft show in many years and so we ventured out again to see how things have changed. I have to say that things have not changed that much at all. I am always amazed at how organized these things are run. It seems like so much chaos when everyone arrives. Vans, cars, trucks, trailers all trying to get to their assigned spots. But no matter where we go in Wisconsin, the craft people are always so nice. Everyone helping everyone.

We were new to this craft show and also new to our E-Z Up Tent. Our craft show neighbors were nice enough to come over and give us a hand when it was obvious the E-Z Tent was kicking our butts! Once we got everything set-up and stepped back to take a look we realized it has been quite a few years since we've done this and we didn't have nearly as much stuff in our booth that we needed! Oh well, we have to start somewhere! And a very good friend of our daughters', who is also a very talented graphic designer, worked her magic and designed some brand new business cards for us in a matter of days and had them ready for this craft show! A big thank you to K! We only sold a few things but with our photo album of our work and the business cards we had a number of interested people.

So a little description of our craft show items...you might be wondering why the old lumber instead of the beautiful kitchen cabinets. Well, that was a lesson learned years ago. Weather and nice finishes do not mix! We had a beautiful little cabinet that ended up having to be re-finished so we switched over to recycled barn lumber which doesn't care what the weather is. It's been thru it all already! The cabinet in this post is barn lumber and some old galvanized tin Randy found. He uses just about anything he can find and all of it is his own design. No two cabinets are alike because it is hard to find the same exact wood all the time. Makes for some very unique pieces, including all the animals.
